Improving Your Bedroom Environment with Essential Oils

Jan 30, 2023

We all know that getting enough sleep is vital to our overall health and well-being. Unfortunately, we also all know just how elusive a great night’s sleep can be.

While the aesthetics of your bedroom definitely play a part in getting the rest you need at night, there’s more to it than just having a clean and organized room. (Although that’s a great place to start.)

In order to get a quality night’s sleep, your senses need to understand that it’s time to rest. If you’re overstimulated, it’s so much more difficult for your body and mind to relax.

In addition to turning off screens and staying away from blue light an hour or two before you go to bed, you can implement the right essential oils that help ease you into a restful state.

Here’s a list of go-to essential oils to use in your bedroom at night and why:

  • Lavender: Used for centuries to create a sense of calm and serenity, you can use lavender in a diffuser or rub on the bottoms of your feet. (For a great assortment of lavender products, check out the Farm Shop at Los Poblanos — you can also shop their store online.)
  • Frankincense + Chamomile: This blend of essential oils is grounding. When combined in your diffuser, it helps promote a sense of earthy tranquility.
  • Lavender + Frankincense: The ultimate comfort smell, this blend is ideal to keep diffusing by your bedside. If you want to start your calm mood hours before you go to bed, consider adding another herby essential oil (like cilantro, basil, or rosemary) to the blend and diffuse throughout the rest of your home.

Your sense of smell is like a shortcut to your brain. When it receives a message of relaxation (aka a sniff of the essential oils listed above), it sends a message to your brain that all is well. When this relay happens, your body’s relaxation response is triggered — and a better night’s sleep lies ahead.
